The history seen from the sea: Sóller, a village that has fought against isolation heading for the open sea.

Since medieval times, people from Sóller have used the Mediterranean as a channel for overseas communication, in order to avoid the large mountain range that isolated Sóller from the rest of Majorca in the past. Our ancestors had to construct ships because trade was not possible by means of wagons. As a result, Sóller’s valley, the most isolated area by land of the island, has become the most opened up to the world, outstanding and, the sea-closest Majorcan area for centuries: trade, invasions, emigration, fish, oranges, textile mills, olive oil, ski led ship construction, modernist architecture, railway... You will find this unique and exciting history captured in the Museu de la Mar at Sóller’s Port, the history of a village with the personality and charm given by its ancient obsession with sailing.
