Result of a complex history of oscillations and dominion of ancestral civilizations, the Majorcan gastronomy gathers the basis of all cultures that have modelled its personality. Probably because of that the variety is one of their signs of identity. There are dishes founded in the wealth of their legumes, the ones that the sea and the fish have the foundation of its delicacy, or those that have the meat the source of their splendid flavors. There is in Sóller an extense offer in restaurants where the visitor can relish the tastiest dishes of our region. There are in the city several cellars and restaurants with character where the traditional dishes of the popular Mallorca are its speciality.In the Port, however, the gastronomic offer is linked to the sea. There is an extense selection of restaurants adapted to every type of pockets. The dishes that do not have to stop being relished are the ones made with the shrimps and the squid typical of Sóller captured by the fishing vessels with basis in the port itself.
Local dishes
There are dishes in all the restaurants in town as traditional as the Majorcan soups or the frit of pork that are the delight of the palate.For the dessert, nothing better than the spiral-shaped pastry Majorcan (ensaïmada) served alone or filled with cream or angel vermicelli.In the local gastronomy the sausages that are elaborated in Sóller in totally home-made way like the Majorcan soft pork sausage (sobrassada), the "botifarrons", or the pâté of pork can not stop being relished. After its tasting nothing better than eat a tasty orange cultivated in the valley, the liquor that is extracted from this fruit or the peculiar candy that is only elaborated in Sóller: the "garrovetes" of the Pope made with yolk and sugar. Sóller is, besides, synonym of virgin olive oil with the recognized quality than the Mallorca´s oil Origin Denomination offers.
